about us

Kelly Murphy PhD OLY

Whilst studying for a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience, I bought my first bike to commute.  My rides to and from the office became the highlights of my day, so from there, I joined a club and quickly began racing on the UK domestic road scene.  After my second year in 2018, I was invited to try out for Cycling Ireland's elite track program; and despite no prior track experience, I found myself a new home with the team in Mallorca.  Whilst continuing to compete on the road, my specialities fast became the timed events. Across 6 years of track and road, career highlights include:

  • x6 national champion

  • competed in 9 European & 7 World Championships, inc. several top-10s and national records

  • represented Team Ireland in the Team Pursuit at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Post-games I called time on my career deciding to go out on a high.  Despite being short, my time as a racer has been as deep and as rich as I could ever have hoped.  Today, my efforts go into providing an equally supported and meaningful experience for riders, no matter their goals.  Given that I didn't begin racing professionally until I was 28, there is no part of cycling I haven't experienced as an adult: from learning to clip in 2 nights before my first race, to calming my nerves before the Olympics.  Everything I know about training and racing, I learned through the lens of a scientist, in the position of a team mate.  Channelling my learnings into experiences for riders is how I find focus and joy today.
